Washington, DC – The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is pleased to announce the Louisiana State University Health Science Center at New Orleans has been awarded ASAHP’s Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care. Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science the University of Alabama in Birmingham received the Program of Merit for their submissions.
“These institutions have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare education and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals,” said ASAHP President Deb Larsen, PhD, FASAHP. “Their innovative approaches have not only enhanced the quality of education but also improved patient care outcomes. Today, we are thrilled to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our award recipient and programs of merit.”
Louisiana State University Health Science Center at New Orleans
Louisiana State University Health Science Center at New Orleans is led by Interim Dean Erin Dugan, PhD, LPC-S, who shared, “The School of Allied Health Professions at LSU Health New Orleans appreciates that interprofessional education is the leading process of learning used to foster collaborative practice and improve health outcomes. It prepares our student learners to work as a team to provide quality care and education to patients. We are so pleased with this recognition of the high quality of our programs.”
Louisiana State University Health Sciences Centers Vice Chancellor Academic of Affairs and Chief Academic Officer Janet Southerland also commented, “The collaborative model of Interprofessional Education provides the platform at LSUHSC to build high quality health care teams that can and will effect change in improving health outcomes across individuals and communities.”

The award winner will be recognized at the 2023 ASAHP Annual Conference Awards Ceremony on October 17, 2023. Both the winner and programs of merit will be invited to present their work at the 2023 ASAHP Annual Conference in Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida, on October 18, 2023.
