Healthcare students stay busy and come in contact with many different people through classes, clinicals and skill labs, not to mention jobs, family and social obligations. But their hard work, drive and passion in these many different areas put them at high risk for exposure to COVID-19. How can you help them return to campus and clinicals safely and responsibly?

Discussion Panel with Educational Accreditors Resources

Panelist Questions - Click links below to jump to that question in recording

  • 13:20 - Have or how have the minimal requirements for clinical education changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

  • 18:57 - If accreditors promote competency-based education, why is a minimum number of clinical hours required for fieldwork/placements?

  • 23:21 - Has or how has the pandemic altered the use of simulation, standardized patients, or other technology as a component of clinical education?

  • 30:11 - Where will fine line be drawn between meeting accreditation standards and pandemic interruptions for academic programs? Can 100% of the clinical hours be simulation or telehealth if sites re-close?

  • 35:11 - What are the best practices to determine the minimum time to be spent in clinic rotations?

  • 39:57 - What new competencies are you considering with the post-pandemic such as more safety training or telehealth training?

  • 42:25 - How will accreditation visits change during and post-pandemic?

  • 47:55 - Is telehealth going to counted as direct patient care, can it be 100% or does it need to be a percentage?

  • 52:15 - Institutions have concerns about making clinical rotations voluntary because students do not feel safe or choose not to attend which will likely delay students meeting outcomes and graduate dates. Are accreditors interested in these student situations being reported to the accrediting body?
