The Interprofessional Committee of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is pleased to announce that Bowling Green State University, Mercy College, and Stony Brook University are the three recipients of its 2023 Interprofessional Innovation Grant Program.
The ASAHP Interprofessional Innovation Grant Program is intended to provide recipients a competitive edge by securing pilot funding for innovative, interprofessional projects that support an array of themes including: curriculum innovations in a remote environment; alternative clinical experiences; telehealth/telework therapies; mental health; technology, artificial intelligence & healthcare; diversity, equity, and inclusion in health care education; broader impacts of the post-COVID-19 environment, including psychosocial, behavioral, and economic effects; health equity/health disparities; and healthcare workforce development, among others.
“The 2023 Interprofessional Innovation Grant projects seek to improve both health professions education for students and healthcare provision across the lifespan for patients,” said ASAHP President Deb Larsen, PhD, FASAHP. “We look forward to their progress throughout the year and to hear their conclusions at our 2024 ASAHP Annual Conference!”

Barriers to Equity for Students of Color in Health and Human Service Programs
“We are committed to redressing racialized exclusionary practices that impact students of color in health and human service programs. By using critical qualitative methodology and engaging with students at different academic stages, we will identify factors that contribute to the marginalization that students experience. This funding will help us understand these barriers and enable us to create more inclusive and equitable pathways for Black, Indigenous, and students of color pursuing careers in HHS fields,” said Jason Whitfield, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Diversity & Inclusion Faculty Facilitator, College of Health & Human Services, Bowling Green State University.
