Newly Structured Interprofessional Task Force Host Inaugural Event “National Models of Interprofessional Education and Practice”

As an advocate for interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice (IPCP), the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is pleased to announce the formation of the Interprofessional Task Force (IPTF). Previously known as the Interprofessional Education Subcommittee, the newly structured IPTF will work collaboratively with the ASAHP Partnerships, Alliances, and Advocacy Committee while maintain its independence and continuity over its membership and work. The IPTF will continue to promote the idea that informed and collaborative practices across disciplines will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of delivery systems to promote team-based, patient/family centered health care.

Dr. Anthony Breitbach of Saint Louis University will continue as the Chair of the IPTF and be joined by co-chair Dr. Susan Gordon-Hickey of the University of South Alabama. Under Dr. Breitbach’s leadership, the IPTF has developed the highly anticipated ASAHP Regional Summits with institutions of higher education and healthcare industry partners and the annual “Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care.” As a result of the restructure, the task force will add three focus areas: communication/collaboration, engagement, and scholarship.

The inaugural event of the IPTF will be their “National Models of Interprofessional Education and Practice” live virtual event and discussion panel in partnership with the University of Cincinnati on October 28, 2020, from 1:00-3:30pm ET. The event will showcase the 2018-2020 recipients of the “Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care” followed by a panel discussion. Attendees will be able to learn from our panelists and from each other on how to create and promote IPE and IPCP at their own institutions or healthcare organizations.
