It is becoming increasingly important for healthcare professionals to build the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, and organizations to understand and address health inequity and access. We will delve into the fundamental understanding that health is not solely determined by medical care, but rather by a complex interplay of social, economic, and environmental factors.  As healthcare professionals, we need to take a deeper more meaningful look at who we serve and the barriers that impact their access to our services to lead a healthier life. This presentation will examine who is primarily affected by health inequities and access issues, why these issues exist, how to eradicate these issues, and what has been done in several healthcare professions and associations to address them.  We believe that collective knowledge and collaboration are essential in the implementation of meaningful change. 
 
OBJECTIVES:   
At the conclusion of this presentation participants will be able to:  

• Explore the critical factors that shape our well-being and the disparities that exist within our healthcare systems. 

• Discuss health equity, inequity, and access through the social determinants of health and an intersectionality lens.  

• Describe the who, why, how, and what of addressing fair and equitable healthcare across professions.

• Develop health equity and access strategies using current programs as a model.
