Welcome to ASAHP’s Research Repository Resources for Health Professions. Thank you to ASAHP’s Research Committee for developing and updating the repository. The page is broken down into 4 sections:

Federal Grant Opportunities

This is a national database of grants that are currently being offered by various U.S. federal entities.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense..." With an annual budget of $8.5 billion (FY 2021), NSF is the funding source for approximately 25 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.

There are several types of grants offered by the DOE, but discretionary grants are those which are offered to (primarily) institutions through a competitive process.

Other Federal Agency Sponsored Research Sites

Many of these agencies are not health-related, but may still be of interest for collaborative research with non-clinical researchers.

Nonfederal Grant Opportunities

NIH has a list of many different grants involving federal/nonfederal collaborations: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK215481/

Most nonfederal grant opportunities are found through foundations. It is suggested that to find these, you use a search engine to look for foundations that support work in the area in which you are interested, then peruse their websites for grant opportunities. Examples:

  • Groups targeting specific diseases/conditions, such as the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, Parkinson’s Foundation, or

  • Foundations that support lots of different types of research, like the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Spencer Foundation

Large lists of foundations that support research can be found at:
