Background and aspirations for ASAHP

I have participated in the Association for Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) for many years, since I was an Assistant Dean in the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Currently, as Dean of the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, I appreciate the role ASAHP has played in supporting Schools of Health Professions. ASAHP provides a place and resources for mentorship, interprofessional collaboration, scholarship, research and innovation for health professions. My aspirations for ASAHP are to build upon the existing strengths of the association in interprofessional collaboration, leadership, research, and innovation. There is also great potential for increased collaboration and innovation through discussions between healthcare industry partners and academic institutions to strengthen the longitudinal relationship from education to the healthcare workforce and ultimately leading to better patient care and outcomes. ASAHP is off to a good start with the regional summits, and there is more potential for significant impact through collaborative relationships and action.
